A Voice Shaped by Story
Isabella Abbrescia, soprano, is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of opera. Having recently graced the stage as Tina in Jonathan Dove’s Flight, Amy in Adamo’s Little Women, and Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Isabella consistently delivers performances that reflect her widely-praised expressive musicality and engaging stage presence. A rising force in the industry, Isabella was a national semi-finalist in the CS Music Competition in 2023, received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont District Competition in 2025, and earned Boston University’s Phyllis Curtin Award in 2026 in recognition of her artistic growth and commitment to excellence. Her background in ballet, ballroom, jazz, and modern dance, as well as ice-skating, informs her dynamic stage presence and physical storytelling.
Recent highlights include joining San Diego’s Opera Neo as a Studio Artist during the summer of 2026, where she performed as an ensemble singer and dancer in the North American premiere of Louise Bertin’s Fausto and in Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia. In December 2025, she appeared as the title character in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Rhode Island’s Seaglass Theater Company. Earlier that year, she made her Mozart role debut as Despina in Boston Conservatory’s spring production of Così fan tutte before performing the role of Amy at the Trentino Summer Music Festival.
Currently pursuing her Performance Diploma at Boston University’s Opera Institute, Isabella continues to build on the foundation laid by her previous mentor, Rebecca Folsom, who taught her during her time at Boston Conservatory while she earned her MM in Opera. She earned her Bachelors in Music majoring in Voice at Northwestern University under the mentorship of Pamela Hinchman.
Deeply committed to understanding the traditions that shape her craft, Isabella strives to create performances that move audiences, honor opera’s legacy, and help shape its future for generations to come.
